In the early hours of this morning, seven policemen were filmed assaulting a handcuffed pro-democracy protester in a dark alleyway by a local TV news crew. Video !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

The man arrested, Ken Tsang, was seen to be spraying liquid upon the police officers from the bridge above them which resulted in his arrest. Tsang also claims that he was slapped whilst being detained at the police station. He has been released from hospital, but has sustained bruises and welts to his body. At present, the police force have a lot to answer for. The seven who were filmed assaulting Tsang have been removed from their posts and will undergo investigation for their actions. In addition, pepper spray was used once more last night to clear out protesters from this section of road, which I passed an hour ago. 45 pro-democracy protesters were reported to have been arrested.
This sequence of pictures from a bystander at the incident shows the use of pepper spray against a protester with his arms up in surrender, at what appears to be point-blank range after his goggles were forcibly removed by police.

However. Please do not assume that these incidents are representative of the entire Hong Kong police force. A number of my classmates' relatives and colleagues are members of the police force and they too, are having a hard time. When the violence in the protests began around a week ago, some policemen were on duty for between 48 to 72 hours straight, with no breaks. Morale for them is not high and although these incidents appear to highlight police brutality and excessive use of force, please don't forget the purpose of the police - to maintain civil order.
An example of this would be last week, where clashes between Occupy Central and anti-Occupy Central protesters broke out in Mong Kok. There, although police were criticised for not being able to arrest individuals that sparked the conflicts, they were essential in holding back crowds of people with opposing opinions, preventing possible conflicts on a larger scale. Not all members of the police force act the way those seven policemen did last night - their job is tough and requires making tough decisions, often for the greater good.

I hate that HKPD is already doing a better job handling police brutality than the fucking NYPD with occupy wall street movement.

This night, over 40 protesters are arrested but only 20 thugs were arrested in Mong Kok while hundred of thugs beating up protesters. Polices were even caught releasing suspects and escorting the suspect to a taxi! Not arresting them but call a freaking taxi for the suspect! Fk this shit!

After half year, still NO ONE got sued and the head of the HKPF defends them, saying they have right to be ‘uncooperative’.
